Nepal in 4 Days: An Unforgettable Journey
Most people think of Nepal as being high in the Himalaya, with ancient temples and fluttering prayer flags, and mountain villages where the clock still ticks at the speed of the yaks. But many visitors don't have the time for a mountain climbing trip. The Pokhara and Ghandruk 4-Day Tour is for those who love to travel and want to taste the very essence of Nepal, its culture, nature, spirituality and mountains - without all the discomfort and inconvenience of a high-altitude trek.
This Pokhara and Ghandruk tour is a carefully designed route from the bustling capital of Nepal to the Gurung capital of the Annapurna foothills, and on to the mythical lakeside city of Pokhara. There are no trekking skills, fitness requirements, or special equipment needed. It does, however, require a keen interest and an open mind.
Explore the Beauty of Pokhara and Ghandruk
Ghandruk: The Heart of This Tour
There is only one day on this tour that sets it apart from any other tour of Nepal and that is the morning in Ghandruk. You rise before dawn, walk out of your lodge, and watch Annapurna South (7,219m), Machapuchare (6,993m) and Hiunchuli (6,441m) turn pink in the rising sun. No crowds. No entrance fee. You, the village and some of the world's tallest mountains on your doorstep.
Ghandruk is an authentic Gurung village - one of the oldest and most picturesque in the Annapurna region. The Gurung are one of the largest ethnic communities in Nepal, and in the past were soldiers, farmers, and shepherds. They have their own culture, with slate-and-stone houses carved into the mountainside, cobblestoned streets between houses, and a tight-knit community that celebrates festivals, music, and cuisine.
Ghandruk is unique to tourists for another reason. Ghandruk can now be reached by car, unlike the multi-day treks that are necessary to reach Annapurna Base Camp or Poon Hill. You can experience a mountain village culture, views, and tranquility without the hardship of a trek. That's why the Kathmandu Pokhara Ghandruk tour is so popular with families, elderly people, and first-time visitors to Nepal.
Pokhara: Lakeside in Nepal
Next stop after Ghandruk is Pokhara, Nepal's second-largest city and the adventure hub of the nation. Pokhara is 820 meters above sea level, the city is on the shoreline of Phewa Lake with the Annapurna mountain range reflected in the water at dawn. The difference with Kathmandu is palpable: Kathmandu is crowded, noisy, and ancient, whereas Pokhara is peaceful, calm, and lush.
Lakeside is Pokhara's tourist hub. There are shops, cafes and restaurants, you can hire a rowboat, and paddle back to the Tal Barahi Temple on an island in the lake. It's chilled and you'll probably spend longer than you expected.
This tour includes two highlights of Pokhara usually overlooked by packages. One is the Pumbdikot Shiva Temple, a new development on a hillside with a giant white statue of Shiva overlooking the entire Pokhara valley. From here, you can see Phewa Lake below and the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains in the distance. The second is the World Peace Pagoda (Shanti Stupa), a white Buddhist stupa on a hillside to the south. The pagoda itself is peaceful, but the highlight is the view - lake to the front, Pokhara in the middle distance, mountains behind.
Day 3 is a free day in Pokhara, and you can use the tour transport for free to visit Sarangkot (a viewpoint for the Annapurna sunrise) or Begnas Lake (a less-crowded lake 15 kilometres east of Pokhara). For those seeking some adventure, Pokhara also has paragliding and zip-lining and boating (at your own expense).

What's Better Than the Regular Pokhara Package?
Most Nepalese tours offer a Kathmandu sightseeing tour and a Pokhara holiday. The Pokhara-Ghandruk 4-Day Tour is particularly special for its inclusion of Ghandruk village - a component most tourist packages overlook. Ghandruk offers you a rare opportunity: a mountain village in the Himalaya where you will spend the night, wake up with the mountains in view, and meet the people who have lived with these mountains for generations.
This is not a gimmicky tourist village; this is real Gurung Nepal, and you will experience it just once, and it will stay with you much longer than even the finest luxury hotels. When you add the beauty of Pokhara to this tour, you have a well-rounded, accessible, and transformative experience of Nepal.
